Canberra's Premier Driver Training Academy
Learn to drive with judgment. Understand why you're doing what you do. Become the driver you want to be.
The Art of Roadcraft
Move beyond basics. Learn to bridge the gap between basic operation and expert-level situational awareness.
Pattern Recognition
Identify emerging hazards before they form.
Spatial Awareness
Read the full road environment at speed.
Risk Neutralisation
Act before the threat becomes critical.
Predictive Roadcraft.
Master the ability to “see the invisible.” Identify emerging patterns and neutralise risks for a higher standard of safe driving.
Informed Decisiveness.
Confidence is the byproduct of understanding. When you grasp the technical rationale behind every move, you gain the certainty needed for safe, proactive driving.
Purposeful Progression.
We don't just “clock hours.” Every session is engineered to target specific technical gaps, building the real-world skills essential for long-term driver safety.
Memorised rules get you through a test. Real judgment gets you through a lifetime of safe, adaptive driving.
We don't just teach you to pass.
We train you to perceive, analyse, and lead the road.
Rob Ogilvie
20+ years on the road. National-level motorsport. A genuine commitment to building drivers who last a lifetime.
Most driving instructors know the rules. Rob Ogilvie knows what it actually feels like to drive at the limit — and how to bring that understanding back to the road for every student.
With multiple years competing at the top tier of Australian rally, a 5th place outright at the Sandown 500, and competition in the Australian Production Car Championship, Rob brings a level of real-world vehicle mastery that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom.
That experience — knowing exactly what the car is doing and why — is what Rob teaches. Not just the rules. The judgment behind the rules.

The Supervisor's
Guide to Roadcraft
Most learner progress happens between professional lessons. Your role isn't to be a “human brake pedal” — it's to be a Performance Coach.
Use these principles to build a driver who thinks for themselves.
The Five Coaching Pillars
Regulate the Cockpit
Your stress is noise that interferes with their learning. A calm environment allows for better cognitive processing. If you feel yourself tensing — take a breath.
Ask, Don't Tell
Instead of "You turned too wide," ask: "What could we have done to make that turn feel more controlled?" This forces the student to debrief their own performance.
Objective Observation
Remove the good/bad labels. Focus on physics and timing. "We felt a lurch — how can we smooth out that final 5% of braking next time?"
Validate Pattern Recognition
When they spot a hazard early, acknowledge it. "Great early scan — you saw that cyclist before I did." This reinforces the predictive instincts we're building.
The 1% Rule
Don't try to fix everything in one drive. Focus on Micro-Gains. Small, consistent refinements lead to elite-level roadcraft.
The Post-Drive Debrief
Ask these three questions after every session.
"What felt the most in control today?"
Builds Confidence"Was there a moment you felt under pressure? What would have given you more time?"
Builds Strategy"What's the one thing we should refine next drive?"

Three Pillars of Mastery
The NexDrive Methodology.
Environmental Integration
Stop practising; start performing. We use high-fidelity road environments to build the pattern recognition and safe decision-making required for real-world traffic flow.
Technical Rationale
We bridge the gap between "what" and "why." When you understand the physics and logic behind a manoeuvre, the rules fade away and true driver safety becomes second nature.
Precision Refinement
Every session is engineered deliberate practice. We isolate specific performance gaps to ensure every hour behind the wheel builds elite intuition and safe habits.
The Math of Mastery
Ineffective instruction is a false economy. Low-cost lessons often lead to more hours, repeated tests, and higher long-term risk. NexDrive is a high-yield investment in a 40-year legacy of safe, confident driving.
